According to rumors on July 20, K-pop girl group IVE entered the lineup for the highly anticipated 2022 Idol Star Athletics Championship (ISAC). IVE is one of the first organizations to confirm their attendance at the next ISAC. Other bands rumored to be joining the roster include TREASURE, ONEUS, TXT, and Kep1er. Idol Star Athletics Championship, a prominent Korean reality program, debuted in 2010 and rapidly became a fan favorite. After a two-year break due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the variety program is back and will be broadcast during the Korean festival of Chuseok in September.
Dahyun of TWICE will host the 2022 Idol Star Athletics Championship, which will begin shooting on July 30.
MBC, the network in charge of the program, stated on July 19 that F.T. Island’s Hongki, Jun Hyun-moo, and TWICE’s Dahyun would return to host the 2022 edition. Jun Hyun-moo hosted the program in 2013, while Dahyun served as an MC in 2019. Hongki has also previously housed the esports section. The Idol Star Athletics Championship will be filmed over the course of two days, from July 30 to August 1 KST. It will be broadcast during the Chuseok holiday, which this year occurs between September 9 and 12.
MBC also stated that the idol idols would compete in five disciplines: track and field, archery, dancing sports, futsal, and e-sports. Dance sports are a new category added to this year’s Idol Star Athletics Championship. Hongki, Aiki, and ballroom dancing champion Park Ji-Eun will host the event. The event, also known as competitive ballroom dancing, will include waltz, swing, rumba, cha cha, and other dance types. Futsal, which was last seen at the expo in 2016, is also returning this year.
